Moon Five

Maia

Manifesting Our Need

“The stars about the lovely moon
Fade back and vanish very soon,
When, round and full, her silver face
Swims into sight, and lights all space”

Sappho

Preparation for the Ritual Prior to the Gathering

The Story
Origin: Greek. Maia is the goddess of spring and gives name to the month of May. The eldest daughter of Atlas, she can be seen in the Pleiades constellation, the most beautiful star among the Seven Sisters of the night skies.

Maia’s name means “mother” and she has been called the grandmother of magic, credited with having been the first to understand and use it.

The Thought
Spring is the time of rebirth and Maia is the glorious symbol. Beautiful, magickal Maia’s vibrant energy can help us to manifest change. What change would you like to make in your life? Attract love? Draw prosperity? Improve health? Spend time presenting your need to Maia, asking for help, and record the need in your journal for reference during the ritual.

Energy Work Relational to Goddess

Priestess: A traditional custom to celebrate Maia is to braid a color ribbon with a flower, chosen to enhance a wish, and tie it to a tree branch. Similarly our charms are worked with flowers and the ribbon is braided so we’ll take turns fastening them to the tree branch on the altar, reaffirming the charm’s intent – the need we asked Maia to help manifest during our thought reflection – and augmenting the intent during our song.
